Edwards of Manchester closes after 185 years

Independent footwear store Edwards of Manchester has closed with no warning, after trading since 1830.

The store in the Barton Arcade on Deansgate in the city centre is closed and empty of stock, according to the Manchester Evening News.

It has been trading on the same site for 185 years and stocked brands including Barker, Loake, Church and Crockett & Jones.

There is no information on its website or on social media about why the store, which describes itself as the North’s oldest shoe shop, has shut.
