US womenswear brand and retailer Eileen Fisher is looking to trial menswear for autumn 14 ahead of a full launch in later seasons.
Jim Gundell, co-chief operating officer and facilitating leader, told Drapers: “We are looking at menswear as an opportunity to prototype, hopefully for autumn 14.
“We don’t know yet exactly what shape this will take, except we will position it as a learning opportunity so we can think about how to scale it for a bigger launch in 2015 or 2016.”
Eileen Fisher has a “small team” working on design, and fabrics are in test stage. Gundell added: “We are also working on other elements such as a label/name and distribution, although I think I can safely say it will be very tight and focused for the early introduction.”
Eileen Fisher launched in the UK in 2011. It has three stores in London and stockists include four Fenwick stores and seven indies. It is also looking into a kidswear range.
