The Brit’s wiped the floor with awards on Oscar night, but sadly the array of dresses on display from stars both here and across the pond failed to dazzle.

SlumDog Millionaire scooped 8 Oscars, including best director for Manchester-born Danny Boyle, alongside home grown beauty Kate Winslet, who won best actress for her role in The Reader. However, despite the glittering success, dresses failed to impress.

Beyonce’s House of Dereon number makes her look on the wrong side of curvy, with a design and look that resembles a tacky souvenir vase. Supermodel Heidi Klum’s Rouland Mouret number looks equally trashy, with the open front slit to her thigh not in keeping with the style of the red carpet. Angelina Jolie in Ellie Sabb looks boring in black, a cautious colour she often chooses for red carpet events. Jolie tries to lift the outfit with emerald earrings, but overall the look is quite plain. In contrast, Kate Winslet, who chooses an interesting twilight blue/black number with YSL. The dress is beautifully flattering to her figure and although not as dramatic as her Oscar night success, is still a lot more adventurous than Jolie. Sarah Jessica Parker looks classic in Dior, I can’t fault the outfit but it doesn’t dazzle. The same can be said for Penelope Cruz, whose conservative choice is disappointing.
