Esslemont & MacIntosh to shut up shop

Department store Esslemont & MacIntosh, part of Owen Owen, will shut next week after administrator Kroll failed to find a buyer for the Aberdeen shop, which has 107 staff. It will shut on May 5 if a deal is not secured. Kroll said two parties were negotiating for Owen Owen's other stores - Robbs in Hexham, Lewis's in Liverpool and Joplings in Sunderland. It is thought Allders is one of the interested parties.

- See page 11 for more on Allders' growth strategy.
