Etailer Studio British to close

Etailer Studio British is to shutter less than a year after it launched.

The company, which exclusively stocks brands that are entirely UK made, including John Smedley, Private White VC and Pringle, has announced it will cease trading and is currently holding a closing-down Sale.

Founded by former Deloitte consultant Anabel Calvo and Ben Bailey, who has a background in tech start-ups, Studio British launched in October 2017 to provide sustainable fashion that supports UK manufacturing.

In response to a customer on their Facebook page, Bailey said: “When we started we really wanted to champion British manufacturing as we believe it offers great quality at a price that is fair. But unfortunately, there isn’t enough demand, especially in a world where you can buy a pair of jeans for a fiver from the high street.

“It seems that the price point was a sticking point for a lot of people, as we live in a throwaway culture. I really hope that things change as it’s not sustainable or ethical, but, unfortunately, we can’t make it work with the level of demand right now.”
