Ethical fashion lands in York

Ethical womenswear will be the focus of a new independent retailer opening in York in April. Called One, the 480sq ft boutique will stock only ethical fashion labels aimed at women aged 20 to 50. Brands on offer at the store will include Makepiece, Ciel, Due, Les Fees de Bengale, Stewart & Brown and Enamore. The store, which will be fitted out with second-hand furniture in a shabby-chic French style, is the brainchild of former lawyer and teacher Anne McCrickard. 'The intention is to create a homely, feminine boutique,' she said. 'I've always wanted to sell fashion, but fashion with a clear conscience.'
