EU calls for more information on Amazon data

The European Union’s competition commissioner has said she is ‘looking into’ Amazon’s use of data from sellers on its site amid concerns the tech giant uses the information to boost its own sales.

Margrethe Vestager warned of a potential conflict between Amazon’s role as a selling platform and a retailer, according to the BBC, but added that it was early days and no formal case has been launched.

She added that EU regulators have started gathering information on the issue and have sent “quite a number of questionnaires” to merchants and others.
