European sales up 131% at Uniqlo

Japanese fast fashion retailer Uniqlo has reported sales of €203m (£144m) in Europe for the year to February 28, after merging its British and French operations.

The 131% jump in sales was credited to an improved performance across existing stores, the opening of new flagships in Berlin and Paris as well as the combining of accounts for the UK and France.

The European arm of the firm made a €2.2m (£1.6m) profit, compared to a €3.4m (£2.4m) loss the year before.

Following its launch in the UK in 2004, Uniqlo now has nine shops in London and one in Bluewater shopping centre in Kent.
