Former Matalan buying director Mitch Hughes has resurfaced at Arcadia’s Burton in the same role, Drapers has learned.
Hughes, who left the value retailer in May, will report directly into Burton’s brand director and will oversee the head of buying and a team of buyers and assistants.
He will be responsible for delivering the strategic direction of the Burton brand and will work closely with the head of design and the merchandising director.
It is unclear who Hughes is replacing at Burton.
Hughes worked at Matalan for 10 years. In his most recent role, which he held for four years, Hughes worked to bolster Matalan’s in-house design and buying team, shake up its sourcing systems and improve the in-store experience.
In July Drapers revealed Matalan had streamlined the structure of its management buying team and would not replace Hughes. Matalan’s heads of categories now report directly into managing director Jason Hargreaves.
