Ralph Lauren has made a wave of senior redundancies across its UK team, Drapers can reveal.
Jeremy Taylor, senior vice-president for Ralph Lauren Europe, and president of factory stores and retail operations for EMEA, has left the business after 13 years.
Three other senior UK staff members have also departed: Sarah Lawrence, Ralph Lauren’s senior director of product planning; Richard Hindley, vice-president of product planning, retail planning and distribution factory stores in the EU; and planning director Catherine Johnson.
Ralph Lauren has confirmed the departures. In a statement the brand said: “Consumers don’t differentiate by channel and we want to show up in a consistent, elevated way, regardless of how they choose to shop our brand. We are evolving our organisational structure to do that — with a focus on creating one brand voice and experience for consumers regardless of channel.”
Hindley joined Ralph Lauren in September 2016 from BHS, where he was merchandise director. Lawrence had worked for Ralph Lauren since May 2017, having previously been merchandise controller at Jane Norman.
Johnson joined in July 2016 from House of Fraser, where she held the role of head of merchandising within the firm’s beauty department.
The news comes weeks after Drapers revealed that Ralph Lauren cut staff from its direct-to-consumer UK team, based in New Bond Street in London.
Industry sources speculated that Ralph Lauren is considering merging roles and consolidating positions with a view to shaping a pan-European operation under a single team.
Ralph Lauren’s most recent results for the three months to 31 December show that revenue from operations in Europe rose 13% on a reported basis to $420m (£318m). On a constant-currency basis, like-for-like sales were down 6%, driven by an 8% decline in bricks-and-mortar stores, which was partially offset by an 8% increase in online sales.
