Exclusive: Selfridges raids Mr Porter for menswear director

Selfridges has poached Mr Porter’s buying manager Terry Betts as its new director of menswear.

Betts, who is understood to be joining later this year, takes on the role vacated by Anita Barr, who handed in her notice at the department store in May.

She was one of several high ranking staff to exit Selfridges in something of an exodus this spring, in what one spokeswoman said was a “not uncommon post-bonus” set of departures.

It followed the promotion of Sebastian Manes from buying director of womenswear, accessories and childrenswear to overall buying and merchandising director.

Betts, who will report into Manes, joins from Mr Porter where he has been buying manager for just over a year. Before that he was senior menswear buyer at the etailer, having joined in 2010 from Harvey Nichols, where he was menswear buyer for five years.

A spokesman for Selfridges confirmed Betts’ appointment. No spokespeople for Mr Porter responded to requests for a comment.
