Exclusive: Terry Bates sets up new denim brand

Former Denham managing director Terry Bates has returned to the denim market with the launch of his own label a year after leaving the Dutch brand.

Bates, who also worked for denim brand Replay and launched G-Star into the UK, has created men’s brand Denim is Everything, which he is selling to the wholesale market for autumn 13.

Bates said there was a gap in the market for a mid-range denim label.

“Retailers have been asking for a denim brand that has a sophisticated fit and wash with a great mark-up,” he added.

Half of the 60-piece range is made up of jeans. The collection also includes polos, sweatshirts, denim shirts and T-shirts. Wholesale prices start at £11 with a mark-up of 2.7.

Bates is hoping to attract 30 to 35 stockists for autumn 13. Leicester indie Pilot and Leeds young fashion indie Accent have already committed to placing orders.

The Denim is Everything name has previously been used, but the brand ceased to exist four years ago and Bates’ venture is not connected.
