Facebook launches local Marketplace feature

Facebook has launched a new feature that allows people to buy and sell items locally.

Marketplace can be accessed through a “shop” icon at the bottom of the Facebook app. Users will be able to list or search for items nearby.

Facebook will not facilitate the payment or delivery, or take a percentage from any transactions.

The service will be rolled out to iPhone and Android users in the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand over the next few days.

More countries will be added in the coming months. The service will also be made available on desktop.

Mary Ku, director of product management for Facebook, said: “Marketplace makes it easy to find new things you’ll love, and find a new home for the things you’re ready to part with.

“We’ll continue to build new options and features to make this the best experience for people.”
