Falling glass panel shuts retail park stores

A glass panel which fell from a store has resulted in the closure of several shops at Inshes Retail Park, near Inverness.

The panel was located above the footwear and sportwear retailer Deichmann’s store.

Four units with the same type of canopy at the Inverness-based shopping area have also been shut.

No one was injured, but at-risk areas have been cordoned off.

A spokeswoman from The Highland Council said: ”Environmental Health and Building Standards have been on site at Inshes Retail Park to investigate, following a shattered glass panel in the canopy above a shop unit. There are no injured parties.

”All the units that have the same type of canopy have been shut.

“There is no evidence as to what has caused the panel to fail and Building Standards therefore intend to serve a dangerous buildings notice prohibiting access to these units until the panels are removed or proved to be safe.”
