John Lewis enjoyed a healthy 23.7% increase in fashion sales for the week ending July 5, beating its overall growth of 20.7%.
In-store sales were up 16% year-on-year and online sales saw 34% growth. The number of online orders placed in shops was more than 50% ahead of last year.
It was an increase on the week previously (ending June 28), which saw the start of its Sale, boosting sales 17.9% on the same period last year.
Director of retail operations development Simon Russell said: “Fashion had a strong week in shops but enjoyed a brilliant online performance, especially in womenswear and menswear. After such a great Clearance, plenty of hard work is going on to drive new-season stock in to the business earlier than last year to refresh the look and feel on the website and in shops.”
On the outlook for next week, he said: “The week ahead provides some great trading opportunities – final reductions in Clearance, the introduction of new lines in branches and the start of the summer holidays in some parts of the country, mean there is all to play for in the remaining weeks of the half-year trading calendar.”
