The department store revealed double-digit percentage growth from collaborations, up 48.4%, while its swimwear and nightwear categories grew 18.7%. Women’s casualwear was up 28% and women’s formalwear climbed 13.9%.
Online sales were also up, a healthy 9.2% up year on year, again boosted by fashion in departments such as women’s accessories, which was up 23%.
In its weekly sales tracker, the business said: “This week saw the start of the school holidays for some and the anticipation of the holidays to come for others.
“The start of the week was strong but we dipped back slightly midweek as we were up against colder weather sales last year.”
David Barford, John Lewis director of selling for London and the South, added: “As I write this, we look to be in for a spell of milder weather, but as the school holidays end, people start to think about the winter and Christmas. We are well-placed with our shops and online having a real feel of Christmas about them.”
