Clothing sales drove a strong performance from UK online sales in August, which rose more than expected as shoppers were tempted by competitive pricing and improved returns policies.
Online spending rose 16% to £3.6bn last month, an increase on the 12% forecast for the second half, according to IMRG Capgemini figures. Sales rose 15% year-on-year.
Growth was driven by clothing and accessories. Online fashion retailers are “ahead of the game” according to the report, as they improve returns and delivery policies, become more price competitive and increase product ranges.
