Fashion sales down for fourth week

Fashion like-for-like sales were down by 4% in the week ending 3 December, despite including Cyber Monday.

According to BDO’s High Street Sales tracker, this was off an already negative base of -1.5% in the same period last year and was the fourth negative week of fashion sales in a row.

More than two thirds (71%) of fashion retailers reported negative in-store growth this week, as like-for-like sales across the retail industry were down by 2.3%.

Overall footfall also dropped by 1.6% compared to the same week last year, dipping by 1.2% on the high street, 0.8% in retail parks and 3% in shopping centres.
