Fashion sales drop to lowest level in four months

Fashion sales have dropped to their lowest level in 16 weeks, despite a positive performance on the high street overall.

Thanks to poor footfall, fashion like-for-like sales dropped significantly for the week to 1 October, falling by 7.9% compared to the same week last year. Across the high street as a whole sales were up 0.35%. 

According to the BDO High Street Sales Tracker, 73% of respondents reported negative fashion like-for-like sales.

Footfall on the high street it was down by 4.1% on 2016. 

The South East and West Midlands saw the greatest decline in footfall down 7.7% and 6.8% on last year respectively.
