Fashion sales edge up at John Lewis

Fashion sales were up 1% at John Lewis last week, but a poor performance in its home category dragged down the department store group’s total sales for the period.

Sales across John Lewis dipped by 0.5% to £87m during the week to 2 September.

Fashion was boosted by beauty sales, up 11.5%, while in clothing both casual and formalwear performed well.

Home sales were down 5.5%, due in part to price match promotions in the same week last year.
