Fashion sales edge up

Like-for-like fashion sales were up by 2.17% for the week to 20 August, the BDO high street sales tracker indicates.

This marks the third positive week in a row for fashion, and is the highest result for eight weeks for the sector.

Average clothing sales were up by 2.8% and footwear by 3.9%.

Good weather and a high level of international visitors boosted sales for retailers, with overall footfall up by 0.2% on the same week last year. High street footfall was also up by 0.4%, while retail parks saw a lift of 1.6%.

Shopping centres, however, recorded a decline in foottall of -1.4% compared to the same week last year.
