Fashion sales edge up

Like-for-like fashion sales edged up by 0.6% for the week to 17 June, according to the BDO’s latest high street tracker.

The fashion sector fared better than the overall retail sector, which recorded total like-for-like sales dropping by 1.7%.

According to the BDO, although average across fashion edged up, sales of clothes fell by 7.7% and footwear 16.3% from retailers who supplied data on the sub-sectors.

Despite evidence of summer discounting, weak footfall somewhat hindered in-store sales during the week. However, the result did mark the second positive in-store week in a row for fashion.
