Fashion sales edge up

Fashion experienced its third consecutive week of like-for-like total sales growth in the UK.

Across all channels, fashion sales rose 1.1%, for the week to 20 January, the BDO High Street Sales Tracker reports. In a week of chilly, showery weather, however, in-store fashion sales dipped by 0.74%, compared with last year’s drop of 2.54%.

Total non-store like-for-like sales – fashion, lifestyle and homeware – grew by 13.6%, compared with the same week last year, in which they increased by 18.2%.

Overall footfall was down just 0.7%. Shopping centres footfall dropped by 1.2% and high street by 1%, but retail parks experienced positive footfall growth of 0.3%.
