Fashion sales fall at John Lewis

John Lewis’ fashion sales fell by 3.8% last week as they were affected by changes to annual competitor promotions.

Cashmere bucked the trend thanks to colder weather with sales up 8% in the week to 18 November.

Clothing sales, excluding beauty, were up 3.6% for the week compared to 2016.

Meanwhile electrical and home technology product sales were up 7.8% as customers took advantage of early Black Friday deals priced matched by John Lewis’ Never Knowingly Undersold policy.
