Fashion sales fall for fourth consecutive week

Like for like sales volumes in fashion have fallen for the fourth consecutive week, with sales down by 10.10%

Figures from the high street sales tracker found that average clothes sales were down by 15.1%, with footwear down by 30% for the week ending 8 April.

Fashion like-for-like’s were down by 10.10% overall from an already weak base of -1.03% for the same week last year. The result marked the fourth negative week in a row for in-store fashion sales.

The report stated: ”Warm spring-like weather has boosted footfall with UK high street footfall up a vigorous 5.5%.

”Retail parks also enjoyed a boost in footfall ( up 2.3%) while footfall at shopping centres declined (2.4%) as consumers opted for the outdoor shopping experience. Lifestyle continued as the star performer of the week with strong growth off an equally strong base. Fashion moved back into negative like-for-like while homewares experienced a third week of poor results.”
