Fashion sales grow for second consecutive week

Like-for-like sales in fashion have grown by 1.96% for the week to 29 April compared with a drop to -3.07% for the same week last year.

The latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker shows that average clothing sales were up 13.31% for the week, and footwear sales grew by 16.27%, marking the second consecutive week of positive growth for in-store fashion sales.

The report stated: “Cooler weather persisted in the week leading up to the early May bank holiday, and shoppers exhibited a highly selective approach as to which sectors they were willing to spend on.

“Footfall on the high street was down by -0.7%, and by -3.7% at shopping centres. Only retail parks saw footfall rise, up by a marginal 0.3% this week.”
