Fashion sales jump 10% at John Lewis

John Lewis has reported a 10.4% increase year-on-year in fashion sale despite the “unseasonably mild weather”.

Price matching with House of Fraser’s 40% brand Sale drove like-for-like sales on menswear up 13% and womenswear 19%. The department store group said non price match brands and own brands also benefitted from the “halo effect”.

Total sales were up 5.6% to £97.21m for the week.

Mark Felix, director of trade at John Lewis said: “We are now into November and our focus truly turns to Christmas. Our customers are starting to get into the spirit, with online searches for advent calendars last week up +219% against last year. This is when it gets exciting for both customers and Partners. We can all play our part by providing our customers with unforgettable shopping experiences at this unique time of year.”
