Fashion sales jump 12% at John Lewis

Ed Connolly’s fashion team at John Lewis enjoyed a 12.4% rise in clothing sales in the week to September 19, helped by an early taste of autumn.

The department store said cold weather products such as cashmere were boosted, with womenswear seeing an increase of almost 19%. Fashion also played its part online, where overall sales were up 21.1%.

The lift came the week before John Lewis opened its new Grand Central store yesterday, its largest for four years and its first in Birmingham, which features its Loved&Found womenswear boutique.

Liz Mihell, head of selling for John Lewis at Home, said it’s clear shoppers are beginning to invest in autumn.

“Autumn is without a doubt just around the corner and all the signs are that the new season’s fashion and home assortments are hitting the mark with customers,” she added.
