Sales of fashion at John Lewis were up by 9.6% year on year for the week to July 9, as the retailer continued its summer discounting and saw improved product sales.
The retailer said both womenswear and menswear had performed well, with branded womenswear sales jumping by 23.3% and menswear up 12.6%. Sales of warm weather items like sandals and sunglasses were also up.
Total sales were up 4.7% year on year to £85m.
Managing director Andy Street said last week that the falling value of the pound could be “big issue” for John Lewis, but added it was too soon to say what impact Brexit would have on trading.
