The outlook for fashion retailers continued to look bleak last week as total fashion sales dipped despite footwear experiencing a slight rise.
According to the BDO High Street Sales Tracker for the week ending October 16 total fashion sales dropped by 3% with clothing sales also falling by 3.7%. Footwear sales however experienced a rise with a 2% increase.
Jamie Talmage, retail analyst at BDO, said it was difficult to ascertain the reason behind the fluctuations but said the weather could be one element.
Sales the previous week had stabilised falling by just 1% after dropping sharply during unseasonal warm weather earlier in the month.
