Fashion sales up 14.1% at John Lewis

John Lewis’ fashion sales “stepped forward considerably” in the week to August 16, growing by 14.1%.

The department store chain’s overall sales grew 13.4% to £74.5m.

Online continued to trade strongly, up 31.4%.

John Lewis said: “Fashion trade stepped forward considerably from last week, particularly in womenswear where there is clear evidence that our customers are starting to shop for their autumn wardrobes, particularly from our big brands.

“It was also brilliant to see such a strong back to school performance, with shoes’ performance now also ahead of last year.”
