Fashion sales up as Christmas momentum builds at John Lewis

Fashion sales increased 5.2% at John Lewis for the week to November 9 as colder weather and Christmas build up enticed shoppers into stores.

Both menswear and womenswear saw improvements in their year to year strike rate but kidswear was the best preforming division of the week, up 16.1%.

Total sales rose 7.1% to £91.05m with online sales soaring 23.1%.

Four branches saw double digit increases for the week. Chichester led the way at 26.7%, followed by Tamworth at 20.1%, Swindon at 13.6%, and then High Wycombe at 11%.

Tim Harrison, head of retail implementation and format development at John Lewis, said: “Overall it was a week which has lots to be positive about, and a reaction to our Christmas ad we couldn’t have anticipated demonstrated that customers are excited about what John Lewis has to offer this Christmas.”
