The increase compares with a decline of 8.3% in the same period last year, when the high street was hit by mixed weather patterns.

Regionally, footfall on the high street was up in all areas bar the West Midlands, which dropped by 4.8%, while shopping centre footfall was down in all regions, plummeting by 8.1% in the Greater London area.
