FashionCapital falls victim to hacking

Online skills and development portal FashionCapital.co.uk has been hacked and its entire archive of content deleted.

The site, which was launched in 2001, has a database of 80,000 users in the fashion and textiles industries.

The Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Unit is investigating the incident, which is thought to be malicious and took place on July 6.

“We are devastated to lose all the content created over 14 years, as well as the back-up files, which have also been corrupted,” said Jenny Holloway, director of Fashion Enter, the not-for-profit enterprise that runs FashionCapital.co.uk.

“We are trying to recover what we can and we will rebuild the site, but it will take time.”

  • How awful. If ever a reminder for backing up files and databases.
