Fat Lad at the Back to make UAE debut

Plus-size cycling brand Fat Lad at the Back will launch into Dubai at the beginning of 2016.

The Yorkshire business has partnered with UAE-based JtwoO Services, which already distributes UK label Samurai Sportswear in the region.

JtwoO plans to launch an ecommerce site, jtwoo.com, and a number of stores early next year. It said it was not in the position to confirm how many stores or where at the moment, as the expansion is still a work in progress.

Fat Lad will be stocked on its website and selected bricks-and-mortar locations.

Richard Bye, who co-founded the brand with his wife Lynn Bye in October 2013, said they chose Dubai because the UAE’s cycling community is growing. The region has 25 purpose-built cycling routes and another 900km will be added by 2020.

“It is the perfect time for us to launch in Dubai as it continues its development into a cycle-friendly city,” he explained, adding: “This move is the first step on our way to localised international growth.”

Fat Lad at the Back specialises in cycling clothing for men with 28-inch to 60-inch waist sizes and 36-inch to 58-inch chests. Womenswear range Fat Lass at the Back launched in July 2014.
