Fenwick daughter to refresh Bond St handbag offer

Fenwick of Bond Street has promoted Mia Fenwick to the new position of buying manager for beauty, fragrance, handbags and small leather goods as the department store looks to build a world-class handbag department.

Fenwick, daughter of company chairman Mark Fenwick, moves up after a few months in the role of buying manager for beauty. Joining from Fenwick Brent Cross, where she was lingerie buyer, she was one of the first major hires made last summer by David Walker-Smith after he joined the store as managing director in February 2013.

Walker-Smith said: “Historically Fenwick was not really known for fresh eyes and a strong sense of what Fenwick stands for will allow us to curate a new vision for handbags that doesn’t currently exist in London.

“We’re excited about the opportunity we have to continue to bring our unique brand of service to existing and new customers, at the same time as exciting them with a fresh new edit.”

The new handbag area will offer a broader price range and a “quieter” type of bag that is “very different from all the noise that sits around the It bag”, Walker-Smith added, but he declined to say when the area would launch.

See Drapers’ February 15 issue for an interview with Walker-Smith and the Fenwick Bond Street team.
