Young fashion retailer Republic has appointed Fenwick buyer Les Dales as brand manager for external brands, replacing Scott Macrae, who has taken up the role of head of footwear and accessories.
Dales, who was senior men’s and sportswear buyer for the department store group for four years, starts this week and will report into buying director Guy Daltry.
Macrae, who joined Republic last January from Next, took on the footwear and accessories role earlier this month as the retailer looks to grow sales in the category. He will be responsible for handling women’s and men’s accessories and footwear for own label and external brands and will report into chief executive Paul Sweetenham.
Sweetenham said the category had become a “critical part of the business”. Last month, Sweetenham told Drapers that he was keen to build strong brand ranges. “I’m aiming for a healthier brand mix, evolution, younger brands and strong existing brands while developing ranges with brands that are unique to Republic.”
Sweetenham, the former European head of TK Maxx, joined the branded young fashion chain in March.
He told Drapers he would look to Asos and River Island for his benchmarks rather than competitors at the more sportswear and streetwear-driven ends of the market.
