Lingerie etailer Figleaves will launch an eco-department called Greenleaves in the spring.
The department will feature product from specialist ethical brands including People Tree, Enamore, Green Knickers and Eco Boudoir, plus eco ranges from mainstream brands such as Chantelle, Ballet and Eberjey.Product will include bamboo-lined bras from Amoralia, organic cotton sleepwear from Eberjey, soy underwear from Canterbury, and plastic bottle boardshorts from Rip Curl.
Greenleaves will be signposted on the main website so that shoppers can click through to the relevant products.
Figleaves is also undergoing a business audit to ensure its practices are environmentally friendly. Initiatives already in place include dispatch notes made from recycled paper and boxes made from sustainable timber. Greenleaves will also offer information to customers on energy-saving initiatives and how to recycle lingerie.
A spokeswoman said the new initiative was in response to consumer demand. “The public is concerned about the environment and we pride ourselves on responding to what customers want,” she said. “By stocking eco ranges from mainstream brands, we’re also encouraging brands to develop more ethical collections.”
