Rival film companies are fighting it out over who has the right to film French designer Yves Saint Laurent’s designs in his biography.
According to Screen International a battle is being waged between French sales companies SND and Films Distribution over Jalil Lespert’s film Yves Saint Laurent and Bertrand Bonello’s rival Saint Laurent.
There has been much discussion about who is allowed to use YSL designs in the biographies of the designer’s life.
YSL owner, luxury goods group PPR, is allowing the costume designer for Saint Lauren to reproduce YSL’s designs for the film, which is being produced by Mandarin Cinema and Films Distribution.
However, Pierre Bergé, co-founder of YSL, has said he will take legal action if Mandarin attempts to reproduce the YSL collection without his pre-authorisation.
