First look: Dashing Tweeds opens on Dorset Street

Tweed suiting brand Dashing Tweeds has unveiled its new Dorset Street location in London’s Marylebone, after outgrowing its previous Islington home.

Dashing Tweeds sells ready-to-wear menswear pieces, as well as made-to-measure menswear and womenswear by appointment. It also wholesales its fabrics for £50-£70 per metre.

The new 550sq ft space has a retail store on the ground level and storage on the lower level. The store has a more traditional shop in the front third, while the middle is a seating area where customers can relax and review fabric samples, and the back is occupied by two large dressing rooms.

Founder Guy Hills said: ”We wanted to create a relaxing environment in which to educate and entertain our clients. The concept of the store was to recreate the living room of an art collector, full of intrigue and artistic luxury items, where our fabrics and tailoring integrate seamlessly. We wove special fabric to cover antique furniture, collaborated with modern art dealers for contemporary light fittings and, through the design work of architect Alexander Hills, we had computer-cut display cabinets fabricated.

“Sophisticated humour is one of the features of Dashing, and this is reflected through a sculpture we commissioned that fuses Duchamp’s conceptual bicycle wheel, Picasso’s bull head and a clothing rail. The store has an instant ‘wow’ factor and enables people to easily grasp our brand concept and vision which is to offer individuals more colour and texture through our innovative British woven textiles and tailoring.”

The store at 47 Dorset Street is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and from 11am to 5pm on Saturday.
