Selfridges has launched a new 1,776 sq ft area for women’s sneakers at its Oxford Street flagship, to take advantage of a “real shift” in the footwear market.
The space offers more than 700 styles and is split into two categories: “fashion”, and cult “sneaker head” products.
The fashion edit stocks 264 options across pre season and spring 18 items from luxury brands including Chloe, Stella McCartney, Balenciaga, Gucci and Etro.
The “sneaker head” ranges offer 300 styles from labels including Nike, Converse x CDG and Vans. It will also manage special launches including Yeezy trainers and Off-White collaborations.
The area sits within its existing footwear offering on the department store’s second floor.
Selfridges said it launched the space to meet growing demand: “As a business we have seen a real shift in the womenswear footwear market over the course of the last two years, with sneakers becoming a bigger and bigger part of our buy.
”Sneakers continue to be a key driving force behind both core and fashion.”
It added that it has doubled its buy of brands such as Balenciaga and McQueen to keep up with demand.
