First Sebago store drops anchor in Bath

Nautical footwear brand Sebago has opened its first, wholly owned UK standalone on Union Street in Bath and is planning to open another four over the next five years.

The brand, whose parent company Wolverine also owns footwear brands CAT Footwear, Hush Puppies and Merrell, opened a franchise store in Cowes on the Isle of Wight last March in a joint venture with sailing specialist indie Aquatogs.

The Bath store is larger than the Cowes branch, with about 810 sq ft of retail space. Managing director of Sebago Europe Ian Bailey said the Bath store would be used as a testing ground for other standalones, with at least two earmarked for London.

Sebago has 250 UK stockists split between lifestyle indies and marine specialists. It also operates shop-in-shops in indies Macsamillion in Oxford and Yachtmail in Lymington, Hampshire, and is seeking additional shop-in-shop hosts.

Sebago already has 45 standalone stores in Europe and the Middle East.
