Flannels presses ahead with store expansion

Sports Direct-owned premium retailer Flannels is set to open new stores at Glasgow Fort shopping centre, Hull and Leicester as part of its ongoing expansion drive.

The retailer announced last week it expects to open between six and 12 new Flannels stores before its financial year end next April.

In its premium lifestyle division, Sports Direct currently operates 21 Flannels stores, 10 Cruise stores and three Van Mildert stores. The Oxford Street flagship for Flannels is expected to open next year.

Flannels is also recruiting for roles in new stores at Merry Hill shopping centre, Denton in Manchester and Brixton in London on its website.

Last week Sports Direct unveiled a new 100,000 sq ft flagship in Thurrock that showcases its strategy to create the “ultimate shopping destination for the lifestyle consumer”.

The store combines a Sports Direct, fashion retailer USC, and an Everlast gym, as well as an adjacent branch of Flannels.

Drapers has contacted Sports Direct for comment.
