The impact on the footwear buying calendar is significant. Brands and suppliers that show at both WSA in Las Vegas and at Micam are faced with trying to exhibit at two shows just two days apart on two different continents.
Micam had been slated to run from February 28 to March 1, which was still about three weeks earlier than its traditional dateline. However, these dates made it more manageable for those wanting to go to Las Vegas as well as Milan.
It is unclear what prompted the latest date shift. Similarly, WSA has pushed its dates back next season because of difficulties with its venue.
One exhibitor said: “I face having to fly back from Las Vegas and going straight to Milan to have any hope of being able to build the stand at Micam.
It’s horrendous.” Retailers that had planned to spend time in their offices between fairs will also be affected.
WSA chief operating officer Diane Stone said: “While travel for people who want to attend both fairs may be tight, it is possible to attend both and we are expecting visitors to do so.”
Micam will run directly after Milan Fashion Week, which is expected to run from February 18-25. It will revert back to its traditional dateline for spring 09, running from September 17-20.
