Samuel Nettey has left his position as head of men’s footwear at Next to join high street footwear supplier Sugi International, and establish the firm’s first UK office.
As head of design and development for the UK, Nettey will lead a team of 10 in the supplier’s new office based in Shoreditch, east London. He will focus on product development and trend research.
The London office will also act as a showroom for the firm’s European customers.
Nettey worked at Next for five years, having joined in 2011 as footwear buyer. He left the firm at the end of 2016.
He was previously at Debenhams for three years as a trainee buyer on men’s accessories and was later promoted to assistant footwear buyer.
Founded in 1990, Sugi International is based in Hong Kong and has offices in China, the US and Spain. It designs and manufactures footwear for retailers including Asos, Next, River Island, Topshop, Swiss footwear retailer Bata and Zara.
Sugi International also carries the footwear licence for brands including Replay.
