Former Pentland and Amazon footwear boss joins outdoor brand

Ian Blackman, former director of footwear at Amazon and managing director of Pentland’s footwear division, has joined outdoor brand Sealskinz as executive chairman.

Blackman, who will be responsible for the international expansion of Sealskinz, was at the helm of Amazon’s footwear department from September 2010 until March 2014 when he established his own brand consultancy firm.

He joined Pentland in 2001 as creative director for Lacoste, and was most recently managing director of the footwear division of Pentland brands, with responsibility for the growth and development of Kickers, Ted Baker, KangaRoss, One True Saxon and Gio Goi.

Launched in 2009, Sealskinz designs and manufactures waterproof and breathable socks, gloves and hats for athletes and mountaineers. It is stocked in Cotswold Outdoor, London Cycle Surgery, Evans, and Blacks.
