Mothercare has appointed former Shop Direct boss Mark Newton-Jones as its interim chief executive.
He will head up the maternity specialist’s business as it looks for a permanent replacement for Simon Calver, who left last month.
Newton-Jones, who was chief executive of Littlewoods and Very parent Shop Direct until July last year, will join next Monday, according to Drapers’ sister magazine Retail Week.
Mothercare chairman Alan Parker said: “We are delighted to have secured the appointment of Mark as our interim chief executive. His leadership skills and depth of experience in retailing through stores and online will further enhance our drive to deliver the recovery of the UK business to complement the strong and growing international operations.”
Newton-Jones said: “I’m very much looking forward to working alongside Alan, the board and the executive team of Mothercare, and to help in the transformation of the UK business whilst we continue to grow the successful international division.”
Last month it was also revealed that Newton-Jones is to take up a non-executive director role at etailer Boohoo.com, which will float on the stock market this week.
