Forum for Manchester indies to launch

Law firm HRC Law is launching a support group for independent retailers in Manchester.

Created in response to the financial challenges facing independent retailers in the North West, the forum will provide traders with the opportunity to discuss issues facing them in a neutral space.

Following advice from local councillor Pat Karney urging businesses to group together HRC Law will host its first meeting on Tuesday 14 November at its offices at Acresfield, Exchange Street. Karney will be in attendance to listen to questions and views, and feed these back to Manchester City Council.

Helen Marsh, partner at HRC Law and leader of the initiative, said: “It was borne out of reading an article [in the Manchester Evening News] back in April, because we have got a lot of alignment with these independent retailers. We are a boutique firm ourselves and do a lot of retail work. We thought ‘what can we do to maintain the vibrancy?’

“Pat Karney suggested that firms get together in a forum to discuss and support one another and cement our future in the city centre. As we hadn’t seen any follow up to that it would be a good idea - given that we’re right in the middle of St Ann’s - to give people that opportunity to meet here to discuss it.”
