Freespirit set to lose Quiksilver

Surf brand Quiksilver is pulling out of Blacks Leisure Group's Freespirit chain following demands for revised supply terms.

The move comes after the group wrote to suppliers across its businesses, which include the Blacks, Millets and Freespirit chains, looking for revised terms.

A raft of brands have had talks with the group in the past few weeks, after Blacks asked for an extra 30 days' credit and 5% discounts for marketing purposes.

Quiksilver sells alongside Blacks Leisure's own label Mambo and licensed brand O'Neill in the 40 Freespirit stores, but the spring range is understood to be its last at the chain. Quiksilver declined to comment, but it is thought it was unwilling to negotiate on terms. It is among the surfwear labels being courted by Sports Direct to supply its shops.

Some labels are thought to have agreed a more lenient alternative with Blacks Leisure, but at least two will stop supplying the retailer, including The Mountain Boot Co.

Blacks Leisure was unavailable for comment.
