French designer Christophe Lemaire is joining Uniqlo as artistic director of a new Uniqlo research and development centre in Paris, according to reports.
The designer has previously worked with the Japanese brand on a collaboration but the new relationship has resulted in a Uniqlo U collection which will be unveiled during Paris couture week in early July and stores from autumn 16, reported Business of Fashion.
Lemaire will continue his eponymous label, it said.
He was artistic director of Lacoste from 2002 to 2010 and creative director of womenswear at Hermès from 2010 to 2014.
In addition to the new Paris R&D centre, Uniqlo’s parent company Fast Retailing opened a R&D centre for its fast fashion brand Gu in London in March this year.
